WE ARE SO EXCITED TO FEATURE OUR FIRST INSPIRING AND VERY TALENTED ARTIST- SUZANNE DEKEL. SUZANNE IS THE INDUSTRY LEADER IN HISTORICAL DYES, TEXTILE ART AND ECO PRINTING. BELOW IS OUR INTERVIEW WITH THIS INCREDIBLY TALENTED WOMAN!

-THE VERY TALENTED SUZANNE DEKEL-

Suzanne Dekel specializes in Historical Dyes, Textile art and Eco printing.  She has a MA in classical music and is a self taught textile artist.

We asked Suzanne the following questions:

Q. What type of art do you primarily identify with?

"I find inspiration in everything, a classical concert, trip to the museum, poetry, nature..."

Q. What does your work aim to say?

"My fabrics visualize the connection with the land….earthy tones, leaf prints. I dye fabrics with natural dyes and print them with leaves, to create unique wearable pieces."

Q. Who are the people who influence you the most in your field?

"The more I develop myself, the less I try to look at what other people are doing. Being my own voice is what I aim for now."

Q. How have you developed your career?

" I started from making children’ s toys and look where we are now. One step at the time."

Q. What jobs have you done other than being an artist?  "I worked as a teacher. I was also a performing artist in the music scene. I worked in hardcore high tech, and in a flower shop. Each job taught me something new!"

Q. Which current art world trends are you following?

"I look a lot at weavers and avant garde cloth designers, which is very interesting. Mostly I learn from the ‘old masters’."

Q. What do you dislike about the art world?"

"Snobbism and entitlement."

Q. What do you dislike about your work?

"It’s never a steady thing…if we’d have to eat from what we do we would be very skinny."

Q. What’s your favorite art work?

"Salvator Mundi by Michelangelo"

Q.  What memorable responses have you had to your work?

"Too many….because my works are so personal and made with a lot of heart. People write me how they feel comforted wearing them which is a beautiful thing to hear."
